Default White face gauges

I'm wanting to get the white face gauge from dz_speedy on e-bay. They recommend brighter bulbs to show through the white face. Is this ok or will brighter bulbs do damage i.e. heat wise. If ok then what bulbs do I need? AND are they easy to get to? (without first dismantling the dash). I did a search & found the how to for the face - thanks.

Search for 194 LED bulbs on ebay. They are a lot brighter than the regular ones and I got mine from a seller bestinhongking I think. Was like $12 for 10 of them shipped and they got here in 3 weeks.

I've stripped the dash & removed the old bulbs to replace with the LED's BUT.... the existing bulbs are definately soldered into the bulb holder!

I'm not sure how it'll work, but I may need to solder longer wires onto the new bulb & then to the holder.

How have you guys done this or are your bulb holders different?P.S. I've also posted this on the .new site in case nobody there sees it there. (covering all my bases)

Damn, I've just realised the new white face is actually different to that of the black one. In 2 respects other than the temp & oil (metric on the existing). The rev counter goes to 7000 rpm & speedoto 160 kph. whereas the existing is 6000 rpm& 180 kph respectively. So this mod is out the window. Damn again!I have fitted the LED's but they don't light up when dash is in. I've checked & they're not blown. I've also reversed them - no luck & fuse #4 at the door is still ok. Anything else I should check?

thoose leds can be a pain in the @$$.. you have to get the wires in perfect so they touch... and polaraty maters... it took me four tries to get mine working properly but was deff. worth it... my holder looked just like yiours but were def. not soldered...

Mine were definately soldered in. I checked this out with the Chevy guys. They were also surprised to see this. Maybe GM didn't want the Japanese to fiddle with them. lol.
