Looking for ideas/knowledge on:
What would be the best/most compatible V8 engine upgrade for a 2001 blazer? I really have no idea, probably the transmission would be an issue, but i don't know. My engine is great but I would love the V8 power when out in the mountains, not to mention turning the bigger everything I am planning to add. Slowly but surely! But seriously, I'm trying to get my head around what all i want to do, I think the engine/tranny will have to be a starting point, at least from a design standpoint.

i would go with a Vortec 350 ... but it will take a ECU re-program and some custom harnessing

 

yes i forgot about the harness, obviously! like a Vortec 350 from a Chevy 1500 pickup? Mine is a 2001, i would assume a similar year would be best, but I know nothing about the 350 itself (good/bad years, etc)

 

i want to do this too. from what i read you want a motor from the same year range. Any 350 will bolt up to your tranny. For the harness all you need to do is add a few wires for injectors and a few other things.

 

Any 350 will bolt... but that doesnt mean the trans can handle the POWER! lol...

 

that im not sure. im sure it will be fine. I know a lot of guys use the stock trannt

 

Your transmission should hold the power, my friend has a 350 in his cherokee with the stock tranny and it works fine. and we all know that blazer's trannys > cherokees

 

The "easiest" swap would be a 5.7 out of a late '90s truck/burban/tahoe. There is plenty of info on the internet on doing the swap.

I agree, from what I've read and heard, a 98 back vortec 350 is the best thing. My friend and I are going to try an build a 98 4x4 with a 350 carb'd with a hi rise. Pics will follow beginning.
