My blazer did not come with a tow package and I need to get it wired so I can tow my jet ski with it. The local dealer wanted 40 bucks for the harness. Is it easy enough to do yourself? My friends ranger was just a t splitter and it plugged right in really easy, not sure about the blazer though. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

you can buy the wire harness at wal-mart, parts stores or any other place that carries towing accessories. the factory wiring is wrapped up and tied up in the back, just use some wiring connectors to connect the harness up. It should only cost about $5-$10.

You can pick up a T connector for your blazer for about $20.00 from Northern Tool or any RV parts store (campers world).
I dont suggest splicing into your wiring. I have seen alot (50+) of splicing jobs no matter how careful and/or well done, they are prone to corrosion, especially if it is exposed to salt, and they work loose due to vibration. This caused all sorts of problems to both vehicle and trailer.
The T-connector is water tight and should be able to install it in about 10 minutes(taking your time). You can get any type of pig tail connector plug configuration so you can plug into a variety of trailers if you wanted. I beleive that your trailer should be a flat 4 connector.

oh, on my blazer all it had was 4 loose wire ends wrapped up in tape and tucked against the frame and zip tied from the factory.

I am suprised but not shocked LOL that the wires were taped and tied. I dont remember ever having seen them from the factory that way at least not on the outside. I found that a good number of vehicles over '90 have the harness in place. Tied up under the dash and ran the lights through the connector at the rear so the T tap could be easily installed as a "dealer option" aka money maker. I did see that they would tape and tie the aux power and the brake controller as single wires, "some where" along the harness in back.
My 1990 has the T tap factory installed thats why I am suprised that they changed. Then again I just found out that they changed the wire size to exact IEEE standards when they had used heavier guage.
