Fuel Pump
Well I just bought my first Blazer, a `98, and after owning it for 2 days I started having start-up problems. I traced the problem to the fuel pump...so I swapped it out yesterday. The new one actually died on me after running for 4 minutes which makes me think that the old one might have been ok. Prior to having problems with the old one, I filled it up with some QT 87 octane. I also remember feeling a stumble leaving QT. Anyhow back to the new pump - I beat on the bottom of the tank and it cranked over and ran for a very short time. I reseated the electrical connector and it fired right over and I haven't had a problem since. Another thing is that I couldn't get the new pump retaining ring on with the new or even the old gasket so I went without it which was not the right move as I have set a code for tank pressure.
Any thoughts or comments in regards to the fuel causing problems as I had, and also the retaining ring problem? I tend to think that since the fuel was common to both pumps that it could have been the problem.
