Default Problem with my '95 Blazer

First off, I am new here and have been reading some posts and feel this was the best place to get great answers.

Anyway on with my problem. I have a '95 S10 Blazer with 4.3 V6. At this moment I am 1,000 miles away from home and just got news that the Blazer broke down on my wife this morning. I will explain all I know but it isn't much because the wife has no clue what guages are for so she never checks them when things happen.

Anyway she was about 10 miles into her trip, when she came into a town and stopped at a stop sign. The Blazer apparently died, she restarted it and moved forward about 3 feet and it died again. This time it would not restart. She said that there was a puff of White-gray smoke out the tailpipe when she restarted it. So a friend towed it back to my house where he glanced a little bit at it. He said it won't turn over and appeared to be locked up.

I just put a new fuel tank, exhaust system, U-joints and tires on it exactly 5 days ago, so I am hoping it is not terminal. I did drive it all weekend while keeping an eye on the guages and I noticed nothing strange, it actually ran better than it has in a year.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks,
Adam Cooper

When you replaced the fuel tank, did you also replace the fuel pump? Sounds like it's lacking fuel pressure. If turns the key to 'on' (not start) and waits a bit, then trys to start it, will it run for a bit?

Had replaced the fuel pump before the tank. Like I said I am 1,000 miles from the Blazer right now and just wanting to get an idea what to check when I get back, but from what I understand it is almost like the engine is locked up, will not turn over at all. I was wondering if a head gasket could have blown all at once and filled a cylinder up with coolant, thus causing the engine to not turnover?

Not if she got it to run for a bit more. Engine failure usually alerts the operator via 'weird noises'. I'm wondering if the alternator went and drew the battery down. If it won't turn over, things to check first are the battery, then once you get it to start with a new battery and possibly a jump, check the voltage at the battery. If it's under 12 volts, the alternator is gone.

It could also be a faulty ignition switch which has been reoccuring a lot around here, but that wouldn't cause the starter to not even attempt to spin the motor over. Only thing I can think of other than a dead battery is a blown fuseable link which is between the battery positive and the post on the starter.

After reading some other posts I was wondering if it might be the ignition switch. I am leaning a little more toward that than the alternator, I replaced the alternator about 8 months ago, but I guess that doesn't mean it is not that. I will check that first since that seems to be the easiest place to start.

Update Info.
I just talked to my buddy that hauled it for us and he said that it would attempt to turn over a little when turning the key and then would stop. Don't know if that will shed any more light on things or not but it is info.

Here's an Update on my problem. Once i got back from my business trip, I took a look at my Blazer. I tried the key and the started tried to turn the engine over but it stopped quickly like something was holding the engine up. I then pulled the spark plugs and when I got the ones on the passenger side, gas poured out when they came out. I then unplugged the coil and hit the key. The engine would now turnover. We then tore down to the upper to check the fuel injector lines. Then while I was turning the key someone was watching to see where the gas was coming from. The Fuel Pressue Regulator was the culprit, it was spraying a stream. Replaced this and everything is peachy again.

Just wanted to update in case someone else runs into this.

Glad you got it fixed. Sorry, I didn't see the thread earlier, been kinda busy around here lately.

Thanks for the follow up. Sounds like you know your way around a vehicle. Hope to hear from you more often.
