Default Radiator Pressure Test

I purchased a used radiator from the local junk yard. It looks better than the one presently on my Blazer.

I want to pressure test all 3 cores. I know the engine cooling part has a 15Lb. pressure cap, so maybee 20Lbs is a good test value.

How much pressure do I apply to the engine oil cooler? I know my dash gage reads up to 60Lbs on a cold start.

I have no clue on the transmission pressure.

Well, if the radiator fails the gauge test.........wouldn't it be junk? It wouldn't matter which cooler was leaking.

I you decide to keep it. block the holes for the other coolers and install aftermarket aux coolers (oil, and tranny) instead of using the ones in the rad.

Hi,

I wouldn't recommend going over say 16-18 lbs on a used radiator. Depending on who made it, their test specifications (when new) where likely not much higher than that. Just my $0.02.
