Default Steer mounted radio control???

I have the 2000 TrailBlazer with steering wheel mounted radio controls. The right side, Mute/Volume work and light up at night; the left side Program/Scan work fine, but do not light up at night?? The fuses are fine. How do I find out if it is the Little lightin the switch, and how do i replace it? Thanks

Most likely it is the LED in the switch itself that has burnt out. Only way to tell would be to open the switch up and test for power at the terminals of the light. If you have power, then the light needs replacing.

If the dealer can replace it, more than likely, you can replace it cheaper if you are willing to do the work.

From what I can see, it appears the control switch is a sealed unit. The steering wheel has to be removed and the switch is released by prying on plastic tabs from the back.

I would have to assume that there is a small led inside that illuminates the buttons. A soldering pencil may be required to replace the led, but it is not all that difficult.

Here's what I would do, price out the switch from the dealership if you can't find one in a junk yard. If it isn't all that expensive from the dealership, then try to get it apart and replace the light. If you replace the light without breaking anything, good job. If not, just buy a new one.

And I believe that his steering wheel looks similar to this:

And does not have the controls actually in the spokes of the wheel as depicted.

If you get them off, snap some pictures of them from all sides. I believe you can finess the outer cover off to expose the inner circuit board.
