Dual exhaust on a 4door blazer
#11
Honestly, I don't believe there is much merit to a dual system on a V6 like the Blazers have. The single line was designed by the factory to match the exhaust characteristics of the engine itself. Perhaps a hi-perf V6 would be able to utilize a true dual, but almost all 6's that you see with two tailpipes are just that - 2 tailpipes from the muffler. V6's have never sounded right to me with true duals because the exhaust pulse is completely different to that of a V8, that's why 8's sound good with them.

It is possible to do a catback dual exhaust setup kinda like how lastcoupe was suggesting. As a matter of fact thats pretty much what i got minus the larger y-pipe. I have a single inlet dual outlet flowmaster with pipes running back on the factory side and then they are bent to go out their proper sides. I had to take my spare out but when you do that you got options. You can put it on the roof (like i did for a while), you can get the mount inside the truck (works but not my preference), or you can get the tire carrier for the rear and start drillin (like i did). At any rate you wanted to know if it performs and sounds good. Performance wise i got a little more throttle responce and i picked up about 1-2 mpg. As for sound well listen_for_yourself.

Thanks for the sound clip, it sounds good. I am not sure what I am going to do cause I think a single inlet/outlet would be easiest and cheapest. I called up LMC and they said it was for an S-10 pickup, but the guy didn't sound like he new anything and was just reading off a computer screen, so I am going to look for a pic of the underside of an s-10 and of the blazer and see if the exhaust and other areas match up. I don't think it will work but it worth another look.

A little while back the guy at my local exhaust shop told me on a 4.3 blazer the engine needs a certain amount of back pressure, and if I put in dual exhaust I would actually lose power. Just food for thought

You'd have to get smaller pipes to help keep the back pressure up

Well, it doesn't look like it will fit so I am just going to do the Flowmaster, Hi-flow cat, and new piping option eventually. Don't want to hassle with finding another place for the spare and then possibly losing power and the extra cost of getting a dual outlet exhaust.

Get a dual outlet muffler, or a dual outlet tip...
That's what I'll probably end up doing

I have a single inlet/dual outlet VForce muffler. It sounds pretty good. I got it done for about $200 with a new muffler, new piping from the muffler back and 18" stainless steel tips. i think it sounds pretty good. especially for a V6. the system your looking at has no muffler and on a V6 it sounds a lot better with a muffler. straight piping a V6 isn't the best. at least from what ive heard.

I took the mufflers off my old Z34, and got better MPG and more power...
Granted I still had the cat in there, but still...
