RE: intake
Yes it would suck dirt and debree into your engine, if you didn't have a filter! You can use the search for CAI recommendations.

your dad is just B.S.ing you. a cold air intake will actually help your car to breathe better, it can help improve gas mileage, and your engine will run at a cooler temperature so long as you get a true cold air intake where the piping is aluminum all the way through and not this half aluminum half plastic junk alot of smaller companies come up with. take the time to do research on the best CAI for your truck don't go about and buy one you never heard of just cause it's cheap cause believe me you won't be happy with knock offs. a quick easy cheap way to start out is by ripping out your stock air box housing and replacing it with a cone filter such as a k&n. i did this cause i haven't decided between a aem or injen cai yet but anyways this will change the sound of your engine a bit cause your sucking in more air cause the opening is bigger and you'll run 5-10 degrees cooler and gas mileage will improve a bit. so for the time being you could do that. but take the time and do the research on the product. hope this helps
