Default plexi?

I've been wanting to do a custom airbox since I got my intake and was thinking about a 3/8" plexiglass or lexan (whatever you wanna call it). My only problem would be with ambient temp in the enginge compartment, would it get too and burn/ melt the the stuff?

I already tried doing that. Its not that the plexi melts, after being heated and cooled all the time it tends to become brittle and crack. I also noticed that it did "shrink" a little bit too.
