Questions about "free flowing" exhaust systems

Just a muffler swap alone won't change the physics of the exhaust enough to change the mileage by a noticable amount.

changing from the flowmaster to the stock muffler I haven't noticed any performance differences. I'm just trying to say if you want your blazer to sound louder go for a new muffler. if you don't really care how it sounds I would say pass on a new muffler and keep the stock one because there really isn't much difference between stock and aftermarket other than the sound.

You can get a long Magnaflow which will sound stock but outflow the stock muffler. A 24" Magnaflow in the stock exhaust will sound stock but flow much better, it's straight through. I had one on my truck and with no cat and dumped before the axle, it still sounded stock, that's how quiet it was.

i have a free flowing exhaust on my 96 blazer but i have a hi flow cat as well. i noticed only like 2mpg but i did notice a great gain in HP. i like the sound personally but it is all personal preference. mine is 2.5 inch pipe from a "Y" pipe after the cat and 3 inch chrome tips out the back. i like the way mine sounds.
