Its not a matter of just that one mod adds 5hp. Sure, you won't notice that. But pair the CAI with an exhaust system upgrade and a custom tune. You'll probably get a 15-20HP overall increase over stock. Now tell me you won't see that gain.

IMO yes it will free up a teeny bit of HP & you get the benifit of only having to clean a filter as opposed to replacing one. I'd say they flow better (IF you don't over oil them in the K&N Filter Cleaning Kit) & that'll mess up your MAF. <--- experience talking
& for sure a lil bit here n there adds up, a CAI will help & yes it'll add a nice throaty sound to the engine/exhaust, but to be a true CAI... make a heat sheild!
I took the clutch fan out & added an electric, A: it got rid of that freaking LOUD clutch fan & B: I could hear the engine & it may have opened up a few ponies (albeit possibly at the expence of the alternator) but I like the sound!

Okay, I know you had this sorta answered, but, the K&N filter has better airflow, and the filter uses a layer of oil that collects the crud.(think of mucus in your nose, does the same thing) It works really well for filtering power. As far as power, no difference. But! the filter is reusable, so it's cheaper in the not so long run. I say just get a CAI. It's worth it.
