Default SNORKLE POWER

Im thinking of building a snorkle for the beast. we have had a lot of flash flooding and i would like to get into some deep mud. my idea was to take a intake adapter kit($10) and use that as the connection point at the manifold, then 3" flex hose to the fender. Mount coupler in fender. hook flex tube to coupler, get a 3" pipe elbow, then go up to the roof. cone filter on the top. Only thing i am wondering. how should i cover the filter at the end? or is there a better way?

There are lots of ways. I have seen caps over the top, like a mushroom without a filter at that end. Seen it done like you suggest. Seen just a piece of hose slung over the truck and tied to teh roof, seen a tube stick up 3" above the hood, seen Lowes specials (pvc pipe), even dryer ducting, not all of them will work when the time comes. Some look like crap, and some look great. But if your building a snorkle, the number one goal is function.

One thing to seriously consider is a catch box just in case water does get into the snorkle. The catch box should be the lowest point of the intake. That way the water will end up in it, and not your engine. How big to make it, depends on how long you want to shut the engine off if you roll and start to suck in water.

Build one like the Snorks. Remember those under the sea Smurf rip offs?

i only want it for when i know i will be in some major mud or such - so im using and extra fender - my current left side has some major rust on the bottom, so i will use it and switch it out for off roading. i have a whole AutoCAD design put together. the secret to the ability to switch will be rubber seals to connect pipes, its not for complete submersion - just lots of spray.
