In my personal opinion I would leave the stock cat for now unless it's starting to clog or burn up. I Pulled out that huge stock muffler and replaced it with a 2.5" cherrybomb glasspack. She sounds great with a nice deep tone, my RPMs at 60 dropped from 2300 to 1900 and my MPG went from 19 to 21 until my pcm popped the cat thresshold 2 exceeded code. Good luck with your exhuast.

A co worker of mine has a 1994 blazer 4.3l and he has removed the cat and put a 3in inlet 2.5in dual outlet with two 3in chrome tips out the back and it sound sick at idle and low rpms. At high rpms it sounds ok but you can tell its a v6. Low rpms it sounds like a v8.

Am I the only one not liking chrome? I have had chrome tips in the past and they were okay. I've been checking out black exhaust pipes/tips for awhile and might give them a try soon. I know they are painted with high temp paint probably, but I just like the look of black better.

I like the black ones too. I'm not a huge fan of dual exhaust or chrome. My blazer has a factory style cat and a single in single out flowmaster. 2.75 in. Currently I don't have a tail pipe cause I just put a body lift on and it hung down too low so I cut it off. But I'm thinking about getting a black exhaust tip for it.

You won't gain any extra power from a dual setup compared to a single setup in fact you will actually get the short end of the stick ... just a thought

Good explanation. Needing backpressure is the wrong way of wording it. What any engine needs is no restriction and high velocity. Which means if your pipes are too big for the engine you loose the exhaust velocity and you loose torque. In other words match intake air to the exhaust and you have maximum efficiency

Not all true nobody mentioned adding a hpipe or crossover to the dual exaust. This way you have enough back presure plus you even the exaust persure which gives HP gains.Like as mentioned though with the way the blazer under carrige is designed it will be tough to do but Im pretty sure you can get another crossover that runs underneith the trans that will alow for dual pipes.Even if you have to run your pipes side by side for duals you can still add the hpipe to the exaust. It would be similair to how motorcycle exaust are made.
