Default Universal cat

My cat just recently blew out and it rattles like hell now. Im being cheap and want to just buy a universal catalytic converter. I was leaning toward a high flow like a magnaflow or similar. I want to know if anyone has had any luck with clamping these in or if I would be better off having a shop weld it in (also the cost to do so). Thanks alot!

I have a hi flow magnaflow. I welded it myself so no idea what a shop would charge. The only issue you might run into with a hi flow is that sometimes it will cause a CEL for the downstream o2 sensor. If it does just get some spark plug non foulers and raise the sensor out of the stream.

Thanks alot. I think im going to go with a magnaflow. Do you recall what inlet/outlet size you used? The one magnaflow recommends in 3in inlet/outlet. I feel like thats big but I could be wrong.

we install the magnaflows at work, well used to anyways they will get you passed though one emission test then they usually come back to be replaced before the next test, so they are only good for a few years.

FYI
Here our emission test is nolonger a tailpipe sniff, it is now just read the codes
They no longer care what is coming out the tail pipe ,just no trouble codes

I installed a pair of universal cats on my brother inlaws VW quatro sincro
The OEM was $2000(dealer said they had never actual ever seen that model of car ) , When he had the emission they still sniffed it and the tech said he had never seen a VW run so clean LOL
