Default What size exhaust pipe...cat converter.

What size exhaust pipe goes into the catalytic converter? I'm about to remove mine to gut it. I intend on unbolting the flange on the rear and just cutting the piping going in the front, so I'm trying to get everything together before I start. To get it all back together, I intend on using an exhaust connector and 2 exhaust clamps until I can get it welded up. So I need the pipe size so I know what size connector and clamps to get. Thanks.

It has varied by production years. Some are 2.5" in and out, some have been 2.5", 2.25" out, some are 2.25" in and out. You need to measure to be sure.

I went ahead and bought a few things. Looks like it's 2.5" in and out. I think I'm just going to replace it with straight pipe. The piece I bought looks to be the perfect length. We'll see how it goes later this afternoon. If it doesn't work out, I'll probably be driving it with "open headers" until I can get the money together for a stock-type replacement from Magnaflow.

I got it all taken care of. It seems the pipe going into the cat is just a tad larger than 2.5". The flared end of the pipe I bought was the exact same size, so I bought a piece of straight 2.5" with no flared end and cut off a piece to connect the two. It almost worked perfectly. I have a noticeable leak, which I hope to have welded up sometime next week.

It sounds awesome, other than that leak.
