Default need some help with carrying a load

00 4dr Jimmy, torson bar crank and shackle lift running 31" Firestone ATs...

It's got a factory 4 leaf pack.

The truck sits perfectly level with a full tank of fuel. The rear springs were not worn out.

However, when I load the truck with 400-500lbs in the back it really squats. Yesterday I put 3 - 50lb bags of sand, 8 bricks (paves) and 4 20" square concrete pavers in the bac. My 31" spare sits in there too (since I haven't figured what to do with it) and I had three 5gal jugs of fuel for the tractors in there. I had the back seats down and spread the weight around, but the thing really squatted and the steering was very light.

Do I need an add-a-leaf of something...? What is recommended...? I want the suspension to move when I offroad, but I need to carry a load too. Lots of home, car, and yard projects going on...

Thanks

Have them on my jimmy, use them for my rear lift and frequantly off road with no problems.

check your shock mounts. i have seen 5 different blazers snap the shock brackets with Gabriel hi jackers.

i've always used monroe air shocks from advance auto.

keep in mind your truck is a 1/4 ton. if you really need to haul heavy loads you need to think about upgrading IMO. i would say a 1/2 ton in the future.

i've looked into a Dakota Digital air ride system for the rear of my '98.

manual bag system was about $400 CAN. you set/adjust the air pressure, so you adjust the ride height.

auto ride height system was about $720 CAN. like the name suggests, once you set it up, it'll maintain that height no matter how much you throw in/behind your truck (with the rated limits of the system, of course).

i'm probably justgonna add an extra leaf when i do my truck, since i'd rather throw that 700-odd dollars into a project on the 'Burb.

there are quite a few companies out there that make air ride systems, look around if that's an avenue you might want t go.

I used the monroe sensatrak w/ load assist as well. They worked great when I was hauling around 600lbs of tools & my fire gear in the back of my old Bravada.

My Rainier now has air bags!

Another option would be to get a utility trailer. Saves the wear and tear on your Blazer and you can haul a lot more stuff in it.

I used to have monroe max air shocks but the exposed air bag tore on one of my offroad adventures and the hi jackers have the bags protected. And when I tow its a 3000lb trailer full of camping gear twice a year so I dont need a fullsize.
