Default What is the advantage of zr2 torsion bars?

I've noticed lately that a lot of guys are running zr2 torsion bars on their non-zr2's but what are the advantages of this? I know that the zr2 bars are thicker, but that's about it. Can anyone shed some light onto this?

I would really like to know, from what I hear you can pickup a pair for cheap at the salvage yard. I definitely would use the crap out of them also...

Zr2 bars are a little thicker and yes the spring rate is stiffer. When I cranked up the stock bars on my blazer they eventually would sag back down and going through dips in the road was terrible. After the I installed the Zr2 bars the handling was improved ALOT both on road and off road.

How exactly did you remove the old ones and put in the new ones? From the back where you crank it? Also, if I have a 2001 what year ZR2 would I want to get them from? I don't know much about t-bars except mine are now cranked!

To remove the bars you need an unloading tool. you need to put the load of the bars on the tool and then back out the bolt that you used to crank up the t-bars. after the bolt is out you can then take out the plate that the bolt goes through. after both are removed you can then take the load off of the tool, then use a punch on the back of the back of the tbar(from the rear of the vehicle toward the front).

The year of the Zr2 that the bars come from doesn't matter. Just make sure that the blazer you pull the bars from have the Zr2 RPO code in the glove box.

Sorry to bump up an oldie, but the search engine leaves you hanging a lot of the time... Can anyone confirm if the ZR2 bars will fit a 1st gen Blazer?
