Thinking about buying a 2 inch body lift for my 98 ZR2 Blazer, but while shopping, I keep seeing this "1995-2003 ZR2 require modification of steering column mounting flange" what does this mean i have to do? Anyone have pics and explaniation of what they did? Thnaks!

 

Some have to, most don't. If you have to, all that is required is elongating the bolt holes where the steering column passes through the fire wall. Pretty simple and straight forward, though may be a PITA as far as room.

Oh, and I didn't have to on mine.

I believe in the body, the instructions should tell you. I was worried about having to do it before I started my body lift but by the time I got done I just figured it would just be one more step. Got lucky and didn't have to.

 

wonder why only the ZR's need to do it?

guess it has to do with the wider track on them? but aren't the frame rails the same as non-ZR trucks, i thought it was just the diff & conrtol arms/mounting points that were different.

 

I would assume it's because the ZR2's come already lifted stock? and they probably use the same steering column as a regular Blazer. So by adding another 2" of lift you'd actually be at 4"...

 

are you trying to say it's because of the angle that the shaft would be @, Alex? or are you guessing?

'cause the body to frame distance should be the same between the two trucks, and it's not like the steering box sits 2" lower in the ZR's...........or do they?

The two ZR2 owners that I know didn't have to do anything with the steering column when they installed their body lifts.

 

hahaha you guessed right Chris. it was a shot in the dark, completely a guess. It made sense in my head, but it's probably not right.
I thought the ZR's came with a stock 2" BL? If so then adding another 2" of BL would be a total of 4"?

 

and insanely unsafe!
