Default '02 Overhead console swap problem

I have a '02 Blazer that didn't come stock with a factory overhead console. I took a long "on/off" temp/compass display console out of a donor Blazer along with the auto dim mirror and map light sunvisors. I plugged the donor harness under the dash and ran a wire for the temp sensor on the rad support. That setup worked flawlessly.
The problem started when I went to swap my display for the "mode" full trip display from a '01 Blazer.
I ran a wire to the obd2 plug under the dash, wired the other to a batt wire and repinned my 6 pin plug over to the 9 pin according to the diagrams I have.
When I turn the key on every led on my display comes on like in the picture attached.
Do I have a bad display? Whats the deal here?

What color wire did you connect the console to?

theres more than just a battery wire and data link wire for those displays. There should be a few more that need to be wired in. I know VSS is one of them

there is a how to on the forum on this...its simple...you reuse all the wires on the original display and then run the extra one to the obdII port.

I ran a wire directly from the battery to pin 14 to see if that made a difference and also one directly to the obd port. Made no difference..

I had seen warthogs how to and that's pretty much what I did except i didn't cut and splice the 9 pin plug on. I removed the pins from my 6 pin plug and reinstalled them in the 9 pin plug using these diagrams.

Check your data link wire

The trip computer normally shows dashes when the ignition switch is in the ACC position. Full messages from the Class 2 bus are not being transmitted in this mode. If vehicle communications are lost, no information will be displayed.

1. Test for Class 2 Lost Communication DTCs. Refer to Data Link Communications System Check in Wiring
2. If no codes are stored, test for an open or a poor connection in CKT 1127/1132 between the DIC and the data link connector.
3. If the display still shows dashes, replace the DIC. Refer to Driver Information Center Replacement .
