2 Rear Plate Lights Won't Work. Any Ideas?
1998 Blazer. The 2 Bulbs/Lights to either side of the Rear License Plate won't work, at all. They were working before, about a month ago. But then it got really cold, then it wouldn't start one morning. Then we got hit with 4 snowstorms. I had to work on it outside. I finally got it to start and run. I was checking it over, cuz Inspection Sticker expired 1/31/11. Then I discovered that the 2 bulbs were out. I took them out, one was burnt out. I bought 2 new ones and put them in... Nothing!!
I just had some "body work" done on it from an accident. New Left Headlight Unit and Driver's side view mirror (minimum to pass Inspection). Took it for Inspection Sticker this morning (Friday 2/18/11), and everything PASSED except the 2 rear license plate lights not working.
I've tried to find a fuse for them, but to no avail. I have a "generic" (for all similar vehicles) wiring schematic, but I can't figure it out. I haven't dove under there yet (will tomorrow, Sat..)
Any Ideas? Anyone know the fuse? How the wiring runs?
2 Funny things, though.
1) My driver's power window hasn't worked for like 6+ months. But when I fixed car, and got it started and running, suddenly it works!!! Go figure.
2) Then I was checking it over, again, before I went to get "rejection" sticker, and with car not running, and with "hazard lights" flashing, I heard a sound in the rear. It sounded like the rear wiper motor was trying to go (rear wiper blade hasn't worked in years). But when I started and ran the engine, the "hazard lights" worked fine without the noise. Go figure ?????
So, I'm thinking I got something screwed up back there.

I'm also dealing with no license plate lights. I didnt even know about it until I got pulled over the other night for it...no ticket he was just like "get it fixed" haha. I changed the bulbs and nothing...tried cleaning out all the wiring contacts, nothing, found out I'm not getting power to em.
I don't have any other weird electrical issues going on..just the plate lights. But I'm thinking it'd be easier to just splice into the tail light circuit and eliminate the apparently broken stock wiring circuit.
GM uses ground control to turn circuits on and off right? So if I have dedicated power at a distribution block in the back, I could run (+) to the plate lights that way, and just tie the (-) ground into the taillights for switch control right?
Also, here's the full S10 wiring diagram...might be a little more help than the generic one you're rockin
