2000 Blazer Ignition Switch

2000 Blazer Ignition Switch
In a blundered theft attempt, some inept thief destroyed my ignition switch. The key cylinder portion doesn't bother me too much, but the wires and connectors were destroyed to the point that I'm uncertain of what is what?
I will admit that I have not yet given this a great deal of thought, because the more I think about it, the more confused I get.
The key freely goes into and out of the cylinder, but will not turn. Not sure if that is due to the anti-theft system, or damage done to the cylinder.
What I'm looking for is a general understanding of the scope of the repair, so I can decide whether to even attempt it, or be forced to use other means of getting it done? Can someone give me an overview of the repair required?
