Anyone somewhat proficent with Power Probe 4?
Okay, please bear with me and feel free to address me as "moron" in any replies. After decades of working on automobiles I'm finally trying to get a much better grasp on auto electronics. So I bought a Power Probe 4 and the more I'm trying to us it, the more questions I'm having with not only the tool, but also auto electronics. Here's a situation I'm dealing with right now that I really need some help on:
I found (via a DVOM) that I have a parastitic draw when measured at the battery of .67 amps. So after watching the limited amount of videos that exist on the PP4 I am trying to use it to find the culprit(s) vamping power from my system. I have the PP4 in "Feed Test" mode and I am probing all the fuzes. The questions begin (this all with Key Off):
1. As I probe the fuzes I get the green light for negative switched or the red light for positive switched as well as battery voltage and some have show .05 resistance. Why am I not getting a red or green light?
2. A couple fuzes get no reading at all (not speaking about the spares).
3. When I probe the instrument cluster fuze I get very high resistance (~2,700(yes that's a comma) and am also showing a PP4 "Tip" voltage of about .46. If I am understanding the PP4 videos correctly that means the instrument cluster with the Key Off has a voltage drop of near half a volt. Correct? Suggesting that something in the cluster is drawing power when it shouldn't...or am I way off base?
Thanks in advance...GREATLY!
