Question 98 bravada gas gauge

my 98 bravadas gas gauge worked but would fluctuate a lil bit here and there, now after changing the fuel pump/sending unit 2 times the gas gauge is stuck below E i thought maybe the first new sending unit might have been faulty, but now with another new pump its obvious its not the sending unit, i would think. How is it still stuck on below e and will occasionally go up to overfull then back down to e when all i did was put in a new fuel pump? I was reading the sticky on how to diagnose this problem " 98+ fuel gauge diagnose" but it tells me my purple wire should have ohms but when i put my dmm on the purple wire i dont get a ohm reading of anything but maybe 0.08 ohms i think it said but the article said i should have much more then that, when i switch over to dc volts i get a reading of 5.04 volts from my purple wire i tested the wires from where they unplug at the tank to where they run up to by the trans and unplug all 4 wires tested good so im really lost here....also my info center says either --LO-- or --E--

Ok so after some looking around, and thinking over every possible option i think i got a answer to my problem. I believe i was given 2 fuel pumps that are for the wrong year??? i have a Airtex e3925m in the truck now advance and napa both list that pump for the 96-97 18gallon metal tank......BUT for a 98+ napa lists part number E3992 then advance E3953m which looks exactly the same to me but they do have different part numbers for the 98 so my question now is are the sendind units somehow different or work off a different signal or something is that my problem? god knows i need a break on this 1 im pulling my hair out thinkin how my gasgauge could just stop workin after putting in a new pump and the power and grounds all tested good and looked really clean and looked like they were in great condition....

Ok so the fix to this problem turned out to be that i was givin a Airtex e3925m fuel pump/sending unit for a 1996 Oldsmobile Bravada... The right pump for a 1998 oldsmobile bravada required a Airtex e3953m fuel pump/sending unit. The gas gauge would not work i was told "Because The 1996 sending unit works the gas gauge with ohms, And a 98 bravada works off a 5volt reference wire"purple wire" and then the gauge is controlled by the pcm" So i was told personally i dont care what the problem was i just know i swapped out the pump for the correct E3953m and the gas gauge worked as soon as i hit the key so it definatly solved my stuck below e problem,So if anyone has this problem on a 98+ This could be your issue....Also combine the posts as you wish mods, sorry for not just adding to my other posts but i felt they should be seperate posts because i start at the problem then Possibly the fix finally Problem solved.
