Default Brake Lights Issues - Troubleshooting

Hello there,

I've got an issue with all three brake lights not working on my "96 Chevrolet Blazer LTS 4x4"

Turn signals, hazards, lights, and reverse lights all work great.

What I've tried so far:
  • Replaced fuses
  • Swapped fuses out with correct amp - Info sheet on fusebox cover says brake fuse goes into No.18 but it's instead placed in No.12. My fusebox's No.18 slot is "undefined" with no clips to hold a fuse in.
  • Replaced bulbs
What I've got planned:
  • Open up and inspect the brake switch
Seeing the inside will tell me if switch needs to be replaced/repaired before completely taking the dash apart.
  • INSPECT WIRING
A damaged 'orange' or 'white' wire may prevent power from being sent to the lamps when brake switch is engaged.
Inspecting the harnesses on the brake and turn switches may indicate a wiring fault.
Unconnected orange and white wires seen below should probably lead somewhere...

Any advice on fixing this issue would be greatly appreciated

Dash lights
  • ABS
  • Brake lights when turning ignition switch
Brakes are squishy and would benefit from being bled but I doubt this is stopping the switch from engaging

Any advice or suggestions on what to do would be greatly appreciated!

Will provide updates if I have any joy.

Because its all 3 stop lamps this is an easy one
  1. Check stop haz fuse 1, 20 amp and if thats good,
  2. Then its likely the switch
If you want to check the switch before taking it out then probe the orange wire and check for 12vdc. If thats good depress the brake pedal and check for 12v on the white wire.

UPDATE! - Fix'd

You're right it was the switch.

So I pulled the brake switch off the pedal and opened up the inside...

These copper pins have circular disks attached where the pins meet. The disks are supposed to make contact with each-other.

I found that the pins weren't aligned properly which meant the disks weren't making contact with each-other.

Bent the pins slightly into the shape so that they make full contact.

Put everything back together and I now have brake lights

Only tools used were a pick and hook set

WIRING
I did check out the wiring before pulling the switch apart.

The power wire looked a bit burnt out which had me concerned...

I put circuit tester to it and it lit up so all works I suppose.

HOPE THIS HELPS ANYONE ELSE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM
