Default chasing crazy electrical issue

So I'm at my end....Here's the symptoms.....

2000 Blazer 4x4
New Battery, Alternator, Plug Wires
Starter and Solenoid are good.
Starter relay tests good.

So, I'll be driving the truck around and all will be good. Then it will just stop.....no warning. After it stops, sometimes it will start right back up, others, not at all. When I try to start it back up, there are lights on the dash, but no starter engagement/crank. If I let it sit a bit, it will start back up as normal. I can't figure out what causes it to stop, and what causes it to start back up.

Once it stops...I've started testing electrical and have gotten power all the way to the relay....

First question, has anyone had anything like this?

Is there something between the relay and the solenoid that could stop power from coming?

Is there another module or sensor that could be stopping the signal to allow the starter to crank?

I appreciate any and all help!!

Thank you

A loose ground wire could cause your problem. Check the battery to engine and engine to firewall grounds. Mine gave me fits until I found a shorted, burned up wiring harness under the bracket for the abs motor.

Checked 3 main grounds while engine running tugging and bending wires and connections and not able to duplicate failure... Where else should the grounds be checked.

Any other help out there? I've been at this a month and trying to get it done for my mother in law by Friday. A bit of weight coming down from the wife doesn't help. I have no clue where go next. I don't want to just start throwing parts at it.

There was a member who found the bottom of the under hood fuse panel had melted. Does it have a remote start unit? Those can cause some goofy problems when they go bad.

No remote start. Took the fuse panel up and all looks okay underneath.

I have power from at 30 constant on the relay and at 85 when cranking from the column. Is there anything between the starter relay and the starter solenoid that could stop the power from getting to the solenoid?

Today I replaced the starter relay just in case it wasn't connecting in the engine. I tested it and it "clicked" outside, but....just to be sure.

So here is where I am at. I have 12v to the relay constant and when cranking. I have nothing at the solenoid. When I bypass the relay I have crank.

Here is what I am thinking....is it possible to not have enough amps from the relay? Does anyone know how many amps should be to the solenoid and how many amps from the ignition? I know my volts are good, but amps run things.

Thanks for any and all help.....I have 2 days left until my mother in law arrives......

Did you check the wiring harness under the abs motor bracket? You mentioned in post #1 that the only time it won't start is after the engine cuts off. A problem with just the starter wiring won't make the engine stop when it's running. I think there's a problem with the harness somewhere.

Checked all wiring. It is starting now, and shutting down when I put it in gear. It will restart most times, but will sometimes need to wait a few moments before restarting. Any ideas on the stalling when putting it in gear?

Fuel pressure tested and leak down ok...so I know is is either component or wiring. Thinking component....but I defer to the forum....

BUMP...

Maybe someone could move this to engine?

Thanks
