Default Cruise Control

alright yall. im trying to determine if its worth the trouble of attempting to fix my cruise control. im about to make a 1900 mile trip in my 92 K5. my cruise doesn't work. a replacement switch is $140. are these issues commonly the switch or is this something deeper that tends to be an issue. ill pull a switch at a junk yard if its likely to help.

Ok so i did some homework and found a faulty brake switch could be a possible issue and as its only 17 dollars i picked up a new one. My ABS light no longer comes on/off above/below 18mph. however there still is no cruisw control activation. The white wire from the switch on the column to the first connector has 12v constant. i have no voltage on either of the other two wires regardless. Key in the "on" position no power except the constant. try hitting operating the switch no change in either of the other two wires. Any ideas folks?
