The original owner must have paid extra for the disco package, check the codes in the glove box, then paint ******* wagon on the side

Your alternator is on its way out. I replaced a unit on a car I had a few months ago. The alternator tested good but the bearings were noisy. Since that puppy was one of the worst ones to replace, I decided to put a rebuilt on it rather than pull it again later.

It had gremlins in the electrics and they went away with the new unit. What happens is the shaft bounces around and the brushes can't stay on the armature.
