Default Extra wire???

I was mucking around on my new (to me) 1997 Blazer 4x4, and noted a red wire in the engine compartment that is not connected to anything. It is on the driver's side near the power block and looks as if a previous owner cut the end off and left it dangling. I tested it to the power block and with the key off, something, I couldn't tell what, on the passenger side engine came on...sounded like it was creating air pressure but it wasn't the HVAC fan blower. The wire is of a smaller gauge than the rest of the power (red) lines in that area. Does anyone have a clue as to what it is and where I need to reattach it?

Thanks

Below is a photo of the wire . It's got a black piece of tape over the end and my finger pointing at it. The power block can be seen in the background.

Is your wire above the inner fender? My '95 has a wire in that area that's not attached to anything. But it has a female terminal on it. It's the fuel pump test port. Jump it to 12v, and it turns on the fuel pump. Maybe that's what you heard making noise?

I'm probably way off base, but it's the only thing I could think of.

95 Sonoma I use to have had one there too, with a round bolt/lug terminal on it. found out it was for towing package, supplies 12v constant to the trailer plug
