Default factory fog/non factory fog housing swap

I currently don't have the factory fog light housings. I am interested in getting a pair and mounting them with some emergency strobe bulbs for my work. The problem I'm running into is that everywhere I look you are restricted to purchase the current ones you have on the truck now.(If you don't have the fog option now it says they won't fit current application, but why?) They look like they both mount the same, and length looks the same. Without buying two with the fog housing and trying to hook them up myself to see, I thought I'd ask the pros. Thanks Chris BTW-Local Chevy garage had no clue....

the reason why it says it "wont fit" is because you wont have the necessary wiring for the fog lights. that is all, otherwise, it will all fit in place and mount up.
