Default gas gauge

So the needle in my gas gauge bounces when I stop and start and was wondering if that is caused by the gas "sloshing" around in my tank or if it is a sign of a bad fuel pump.

I know on the newer trucks, the PCM buffers the signal from the fuel level sending unit. Not sure if that is the case on the older trucks. If the gauge reads accurately other than the bouncing, I'm not sure I would worry about it too much.

The needle movement will be more noticeable when the gauge reads ~1/3 tank or less. Above that point any movement would be barely perceptible.

I've noticed as Riddle said, that around 1/3 a tank it moves around a LOT. I also noticed that when it's around 1/4 tank & it changes radically, if I put it in neutral while at a light or moving steadily along, the needle bounces but goes up to the actual (so I hope) fuel level. Hows that for odd? lol

@Rottidog that is odd I've never tried as you described, might see if mine does that. How do you like your intake swap?
