the best place would b an ignition fuse, either in the fuse block or behind the key cylinder so when u turn the key to the on position or even acc position the leds will come on. its ez to find that wire from the fuse block or key when using a test light.

What color LED's do you plan on using?
If its anything besides white or amber, I would run a switch between the LED's and the power source...

Well i figured it would probably be better to throw a switch in due to them being red i don't have a fuse block under the hood otherwise i already would have been done with this little project but will get back to it tomorrow hopefully and will put up pictures when im done

Get the ebay LED's that are fine to run at 12-19v, and just tap into a power wire that is on with the key, then put a switch between that, walla.

Two questions. #1, do you have a red light permit? #2, do you have an insurance rider in case of accident while you have red LEDs on while driving. Depending on the state, red, blue and green LEDs require different permits and the police get really, really snotty when you just hook them up. In Indiana for instance, red is for emergency vehicles like ambulances, fire trucks and so on. Blue is for volunteer fire fighters and green is for an EMT. Kentucky has red for volunteer fire fighters and blue for police.

White and amber are not emergency vehicle lights so you can use them. Get caught with, or worse, have an accident with the wrong color showing on the front and you're looking at major fines and possible vehicle confiscation. You can have red on the rear, BUT, if they flash, they MUST flash together unless you have the red light permit. If they flash back and forth (wig wag) you will have the same problems.

One last caveat, flip the lights on to be funny and you will probably have a BUNCH of police officers pointing their weapons at you while pulling you out of your car. That's how a lot of rapists attack women on the road. Those self same criminals usually have a fire arm and the police have absolutely no tolerance for people who like to play these games. I know, I had a badge for 10 years.

basically, What I was meaning to say, anything but red for the tail lights, and amber signals, for exterior lights, it will be illegal.
