HIR Headlight Bulbs

HIR Headlight Bulbs
Anybody use HIR headlight bulbs? I know Toshiba stopped making them, but now Philips makes HIR bulbs. They are a tad pricey, but I thought about trying some for my low beams. The 9005 would be replaced by HIR1/9011 and the 9006 would be replaced by HIR2/9012. I know these Philips HIR's aren't true HIR's, but they meet 9011 and 9012 new specifications. If I decide to get them, I'll report back here and tell you how they go.
Just as a side note, if you decide to take this route, the 9011 and 9012 will fit in place of the 9005 and 9006 but you have to trim one thing. You have to trim down the tab on the bulb with nail clippers or a file.
The only thing I'm worried about is reading this statement:
However, this mod (the 9005/9006 to 9011/9012) will only work on vehicles that have an integral bulb shield that covers the front/top of the bulb from direct view.
$40 for 2 headlight bulbs though...

I'm about convinced that HIDs aren't for me, haven't looked into these things at all tho. The lack of responses kind of concerns me.
Maybe I'll just get those GE Nighthawk Sport or the Sylvania things and bolt a set of HID/HIR driving lights in the bumper. Sure would like something to make up for my night vision going to hell, tho

Tibby.. couple guys on TCCoA tried em. They work great but for one thing. Put yer eye out if you look dead straight at 'em. that's why the shield caution.
Been trying to figger out how to mount shield inside. Got an idea but prolly too lazy to try it.

The new ones have a short life compared to the old ones. Most swappers stay away from them because of that and the price.
