Default HIR Headlights?

Does anyone have any experience with these headlights? It would appear as though they are good alternatives to Silverstars.

Everything I've read talks about a glare shield in-front of the bulb. They're a little cap with the inside of the convex cap facing the bulb to reflect the glare back to the housings reflector for proper lighting. No stock blazer housing I've seen or heard of has one.
It'll probably be no better than an HID in a non HID housing, IE projector housing lens.
Get a projector housing & try them & that way they'll be focused properly & you'll get the most from them. IMO
I'm almost tempted to get 1 & put it in my projector housing with the other bulb being my 6000K 35watt HID & see the difference. A Pepsi challenge of sorts.

Hmm that's interesting. It kinda defeats the purpose of being a drop in mod. If projectors are required I'd rather go HID, but I was hoping to stay on the lower side of $100 and still get a good light setup.

I'm thinking I might go with Silverstars. I used to work at Walmart customer service, and we would take anything back without a receipt. If I keep the packaging and return them after their ~8 month life span is up, I could get a new pair free of charge. lol

Many people do that with Silverstars that I know.

As for the HIR's from what I've read so far a lot of people talk about the reflector cap in-front of the bulb. Projector housings will take care of that & someone even said the HIR's were brighter than their 6000K HID's. That's why I'd like to do a side by side comparison.

I went the silverstar route but rather then just drop in and plug in the harness, I added a relay that feed power straight from the battery to the bulb. so now my bulbs are getting a true 14.4 volts from the batt/alt rather than 12 or even 10.5 while running. My lights are darn near as bright as my High beams, just aimed a bit lower as low beams should be.

Granted I would rather do a proper HID and projector retrofit, but i cannot find a set of clear lensed housings for my 95 Jimmy. I have done many retrofits of other cars, but with the fresnel style lense we have a projector would be a waste.

You can find the cheap clear ebay style lenses for your truck, and just cut them open and retrofit them with a good set of projectors. Check The Retrofit Source online: headlight upgrades for all applications for all of that (well minus the lens)
