Default Installing Rear Glass Dome Light Pin Switch

Hey everyone.. New member here!

I have a very frustrating problem on my 1998 Blazer LS that I'm the original owner of. Mine has the drop down lift gate option with a lift up rear glass. In the liftgate latch there is a self adjusting dome light pin switch that when the gate is closed, hits a small island on the back of the glass to shut off the rear dome light... Ok, now to the problem...

The switch broke so I went and found some OEM switches, self adjusting, the exact part #. Every time I snap a new switch in and close the rear glass to set the depth of the switch, the outer bezel breaks and leaves the switch broken and useless. I've even tried to set the switch with a small wood block and hammer tapping gently and it still breaks the bezel... I've gone through 6 switches and have tried everything I can think of minus using some sort of lubricant down the ribbed shaft. I thought that using lubricant would make the switch set too deep or something like that.. I believe these are the same switches used in the rear door jambs as well..

I'm at my wits end with this so any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Just A SWAG...but bent or worn hinges on the lift gate? The hinges on both the gate and glass both determine how the switch lands.
