Default Instrument cluster fuse keeps blowing

Hello everyone Red here,

I have a 1987 K5 with the 6.2L Detroit. She has 155k miles and has been wonderful to me.....for the most part. I have been having a issue of the gage cluster fuse blowing. I have read some other forums and tried some fixes. I have what I feel like gone through and touched all wires to make sure they were connected proper and grounded. I have replaced my glow plugs and controller, oil pressure sensor, I have also pulled the dash and cluster and it still pops without it being hooked up. Really at a lose with this one could use some help. The fuse pops right away once you give it any power.

Thanks in advance,
Red

Sounds like you have already tried quite a bit so my advice might be redundant.

I had a weird issue once where my instruments went out too. I'd replace the fuse and they'd go out again. The way I diagnosed it was to start disconnecting other sub-circuits that shared the same fuse. After a few attempts I found it was my OEM radio causing the fuse to blow. When I took out the radio I found two loose nickels in it! I had had the radio working for many year but I can only guess that going over a bump knocked them loose which then caused a short!

Good Luck!

Contrary to popular advice, in this case you should have taken the wooden nickels! LOL. I like the diagnostic approach however.

Is there more than just the cluster on that circuit?
