Instrument cluster replacement
I have to change out my cluster but getting all kinds of different info as far as getting it cloned/programmed for my car to even start again. My dash lights blink warning lights come on randomly and my odometer went blank along time ago. Maybe 40,000 ago. A mechanic told me I needed a new cluster which is discontinued (1998 LS 4.3 rear wheel 4 door) and quoted my $340 for remanufactured and $110 for labor. I can do it myself but don’t believe they are plug and play.
I was able to replace my instrument cluster in my 1999 from one I got from a wrecking yard with no problem. I simply plugged it in and it worked.
Not surprisingly the odometer was off. I just recorded the difference in my maintenance record notebook.

Wow that simply? What about codes already in there? What about the fuel gage? I heard these would all be an issue
And if you shop around, it is possible (from what I've read) to find OBD readers that can reset things like the odometer.
I believe all the data will be stored in the ECU or BCM.
