I've been having issues with the ignition on my Blazer again. I replaced the ignition switch a few months ago and everything seemed to be working well. Recently I started getting the transmission error codes again and problems with the transmission being stuck in second or third, I'm not sure which, and the key won't turn fully back to the off position. I replaced the lock cylinder because it seemed to be not working properly. And the cylinder does seem to be damaged but I'm still having the same problems. Then I noticed the white thing plugged into the back of the ignition lock housing. When I push the button on the bottom the key will turn back to the off position but otherwise I still have the problem and if I don't press the button the key won't turn back fully. I think maybe this part is faulty but I'm not sure what it is. I can't seem to find it online anywhere and when I look up the lock cylinder housing online that part doesn't seem to come with it. Does anyone know what it is or what it's called?



Edit: I believe that's the manual key release and my issue is possibly something to do with the floor shifter wiring.

 

What year? What sort of transmission? Is it column shift or floor shift?

It looks to me to be a steering wheel theft deterrent lock. I found what it might be at this page below, #39, part number 26056147.

You'll want to confirm the fitment at an online parts seller. I use GM Parts Giant because I can input my VIN although it doesn't have the best exploded parts diagrams.

 

I think it's actually the manual key release. I edited my op. I think my problem is actually something in the floor shifter wiring. I think it's not sensing when I'm in park properly.
