Normal Voltage Reading

Normal Voltage Reading
My 2002 Blazer volt meter is constantly reading above 14 volts on the instrument panel when the engine is running. I have a new battery and the engine always starts fine. I was wondering what the volt reading should be with the engine running at the battery posts. I don't care if the volt meter is reading high so long as i know what the correct voltage should be. I can measure that myself from time to time.
Thanks,
Ed

I think generally it is 14.7 volts... pretty much 13-15 depending on the rpm is ok.

In colder weather, GM alternators will show over 14 v on the dash pretty much always. In warmer/hot weather, it will drop below 14 as underhood temperatures rise. I found last summer that battery V with underhood hot and engine has been running at temp was 13.8 V. Tried on two different cars.
I find the voltmeter on my truck to be pretty darn accurate and I trust it.
Be aware that any voltage over 12.6 read at battery terminals means the alternator is charging the battery.

Sounds good. With minne running I am at 14.88 on my meter. Gauge is about 15 ish so sounds like we are good to go. Getting ready to do a 1000 mile round trip across the UP of Michigan. No place for car trouble in the winter.

Could this be
My truck is having a sputtering problem and I noticed that my volt meter in the dash was 2-3 dashes below 14 is this normal or a warning sign
