After tightening a loose battery cable the radio in my 2002 LS will not play unless the ignition is on. Everything else -wipers, mirrors, windows, work on accessory as well as on RAP. Just the radio. The radio functions fine otherwise - tuner, tape, cd. Just only with the ignition switch "on" and when the switch turns on the display reads cal err. My scan tool doesn't find any codes, perhaps not as sophisticated as I need for this. Suggestions?

And yes, checked all the fuses.

I finally resorted to going to the dreaded GM dealer. Nothing a 1.5 hour download might not fix. Or not. I decided to live with it.

Default The Dealer

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I figured a trip to the dealer was my only remedy but avoid them, much like you, like the plague.

I wonder if dealers know people, generally, would rather WAIT in a Dentist office for 16 hours pending a root canal (with no numbing agent) than visit them?

GM told me the dealer who sold me the radio should have programmed it; the dealer didn’t even know it needed programming, then decided it was a power issue needing a series of “diagnostics”. And around the wheel goes....

I’m waiting to find some back room hacker who can programmed it for $10 instead of the $150 at the dealer just to “find” the problem already found.
