Default Temperature switch ?

My 87 S10 Blazer 350 engine has all the original gauges hooked up and working,. But my temperature sensor is too close to my header and it seems to be melting the connector. I have the original 2.8 sensor installed with the head with an adapter.

My question is this. Is there another sensor that I can use with out the adapter ?
Maybe only uses one (1) wire of the two (2)?

Most 350 intakes have a port or two where you can install sending the unit in it. Most times usually around the thermostat
