Lightbulb What is this orange plug and cable and what can I do with it?

I've been poking and prodding around the engine bay of a 2001 Jimmy I just bought and came across this plug and socket with wire on the driver's side. I've never seen anything like it in any other vehicle I've had that I remember, so I was hoping someone here could explain what I'm looking at. Thanks!

Is this for my coffee-maker?

Thats the block heater for winter. It's on the drivers side. Where the freeze plug should be. They then to break at the engine end, so double check before use.

Ah, that makes sense and is a nice feature. I'm from South Carolina where I've never had to worry about such a thing, ever. But that's well-thought-of I'll be sure to check the other end as you said. Not that I can imagine ever using it, but if I sell it or something. Thanks so much for your help!
