What are these sensors and what should I do with this antenna?
I actually have two questions. I just bought a '95 GMC Sonoma (regular cab, two-wheel drive with a 2.2) with a bit of body damage because I wanted something to learn to drive a stick in and I figured I could repair the damage and sell it for a profit when I'm ready for something better. Right now, though, I have two things I'm kind of scratching my head about.
1. I found three of these little sensors on the bottom of the truck -- two below the radiator, behind where the front bumper used to be, and one on the left-side frame rail near the back of the cab. The one near the back of the cab (pictured below) looks like it used to be attached to the frame rail, but has rusted itself loose and is now dangling by its wire. One of the two at the front behind the bumper has the same problem. I'm thinking they might be airbag sensors or something, but I'm not sure. Are they something I could just reattach to the frame with hose clamps or zip ties or something, or would that make an airbag blow up in my face somehow?
2. One fender was smashed and I also had a bit of rust along the top of one of the wheel arches on the bed, so I decided what I would do would be to replace the fender with one of the same color from an '02 Blazer Xtreme, plus the other three fender flares, which fit almost perfectly and one of which would hide the rust spot nicely. The problem I've run into, though, is when I went to connect the antenna from my new fender to the truck, I noticed that the connector on the old antenna was a female plug and the one that came with the new one is male (pic below). Would it be OK to just lop off the existing end and splice in the end from my old antenna, or would I have to actually swap the antennae? And if I do have to swap out the whole antenna, how to I remove it from the fender?
