Default Wiring Nightmare..

Hey guys,

Jump to bold if you just want the question, otherwise, here's the story..

I really need your help on this one.. As much as I hate to say it my Blazer is a wiring nightmare and it pisses me off everyday.. It's a nightmare because when I was 15 years old, I had just bought my Blazer, however it needed an engine..

At the time I knew very little about engines and electrical (especially electrical).. So I had my uncle help me. I bought an engine from an older Suburban that we dropped in, the only difference, it was carbureted engine not TBI.. Why in the hell I didn't just change intakes I will never know, but I hate the decision most days.. So since it was carbureted my uncle cut out the TBI harness and just figured out which wires needed to be hooked up and ran them to a power or ground and everything is run to the ignition (nothing works with the key off)

Now comes my questions... The other night I was changing the rear main seal, got it changed and got it all put back together. I opened my door, turned my key the dome light flashed on and then off (it turns on with the key) now I have no headlights, taillights, cluster lights, or courtesy lights.. I checked all my grounds and put in a new headlight switch, I really don't know what else to do so I need some help..

It is literally one thing after another with this thing... In the future I plan on getting an entirely new chassis harness and rewiring everything and it will also be getting a 5.3 to boot, until then, I need it to keep functioning correctly..

There is no fuse for the headlights and taillights. I have read various things that the switch has a circuit that resets when it cools and I have also read that there is a fusible link somewhere but I have not been able to find it.

Patience and persistence will pay off. Be thankful it's a full size blazer. 10 pounds of stuff in a 10 pound bag. Easier to squirrel around following wires. Check for voltage at the switch, double check for pinched wires from your rear main seal replacement. No offence to your uncle, he really helped when you needed it. But one of his connections may have gone bad. He may have tied too many things onto 1 circuit. All the fuses should be checked. All cut wires should be capped and taped. Get your wiring schematic and physically check all connections. Make notes for what wires were cut, tied into other circuits and what color wires went where. Your custom schematic for your custom wiring will help with future repairs/projects.

Thanks for the reply, I will check again when I have time. I haven't had any trouble with it in the last 5 years, it just has to be one thing after another when it comes to my Blazer.. The weird thing is, we have wires connected from the TBI harness and I have no idea why, it should all be able to run off of the chassis harness. I would really like to remove the TBI wires that are just cut off at the firewall. However, it seems I've never really found a good TBI harness schematic.. I might fiddle with it tonight after work and see what I can get figured out.
