Default 2001 Lumina Trans slip'n

2001 Lumina 115 k miles. Never did any towing with this car. Original owner. Just recently she is starting to slip on acceleration. Anything I can do to prolong this not getting any worse or is it just a matter of time before it has to be replaced. V-6, 3.1ltr.

Same thing happened with my old Lumina. Once she started slipping, it took about a month for it to completely go. My grandma owned it since 45k miles, it had 117k when I bought it. Tranny went out at 125k. Had to replace tranny. If your going to do it yourself then save yourself the headache of dropping it and pull it from the top with the motor. Way easier unless you have a lift. Now it's used as a spare vehicle, she's drinking antifreeze like crazy... intake manifold gaskets go on the 3.1's pretty comonly.

Also, here is another question. Got a 90 Pontiac 6000 LE. Trans was replaced about a year ago. Want to dump the car soon. Is the trans in there compatable with the Lumina? Thanks.

In short the 90 trans will not fit due to electronics. The 90 is run off vacuum modulators the 01 is run off electronic sensor due to the obd 2 setup vs the obd1 or obd0 setup on the 90. U could also look in centuries for a trans at the local yard. Pulling these are a royal PIA but they r right pull the motor and trans as a unit and save urself the headaches. I have the 4t40e's or ur tranny's big brother in the back of my blazer as we speak lol. Or u could just get a supercharged 3.8 motor and trans and swap that in. Shouldn't be too hard that is all the monte is is a 3.8 and the monte is just the 2 dr version of the lumina. Also look at grand prix se's for the trans too if u have any specific questions pm me and I will shoot u my #, as u can tell by my sig I am quite familiar with that body and platform.
