Default 68 Mustang Export Brace.

Since I have no other place to share car stuff with people I thought I'd share this little upgrade to my old Mustang.

As many of you know, the goofy Mustang suspension with the shock towers is left over from the early Falcons which supposedly had the front end designed this way so to accommodate a front wheel drive drivetrain.

Well, a notorious weak part of the body design is that the front body will sag and twist with the stock bracing not being strong enough. This was bad enough that for the European market, where the roads were not so great, Mustangs were fitted with a one-piece "export brace" to stiffen up the front body. These were also standard equipment for the Shelby Mustangs.

So I've been meaning to add one to my Mustang for a long time. Fortunately, mine went it pretty easily with only some wiggling and jacking up the body to let it relax a bit. Some cars are so twisted or have sagged so much you have to use hydraulic rams to expand the distance between the shock towers.

A before picture from several years ago.

The new one-piece export brace installed. It is several times thicker than the original two piece bracing.

The old braces.
