nah nah nahhhhh no need to touch anything like that. Just loosen the top bolt on the mount, and get your floor jack and place it on the lip of the torsion member, closest lip to the rear and jack the torsion member up until the mount clears. it'll usually come out in 2 pieces. new one is 1 pc. if you push on the torsion member its self? it'll move if the mounts broke. takes a bit of effort though. Make sure your pushing on the torsion member and not the cross member it sits in.
ohhh.
If you replace both you have to get the new design (3 bolts instead of 2 bolts and 1 stud) due to the exhaust being in the way on passenger side. if the other side is good though,i wouldnt worry about it.

edit : driver side is easy, any style will work. just not the passenger side. its a pita.

Squeaks and rattles are just to common on our chosen vehicle so I have just about given up tracking them down and fixing them at this point. I do however have a funny story. I have worked in the automotive service and sales industry for just over 23 years and a few service customers always stick out. we had a customer at a Chevrolet dealer I was working for back in '99 that had an annoying vibrating sound comming from the interior of his new Blazer every few minutes. the tech took the truck for a roadtest with the customer and heared the noise but could not find it. the customer was getting pissed so they called me over since I basically had the same truck just a few years older. Low and behold I hear the noise in the shop wait a few minutes and I hear it again. I find the culprit call the customer over to confirm the noise and he says yes there it is there is obviously something wrong with this truck because it even makes noise when it is shut off. I asked him do you use a beeper yes everybody I said beeper remember this '99. He said yes and I asked him can I see it. guess what he can't find it because he had put it in one of the overhead compartments with some tissues. He had received a beep and he was hearing the reminder tone every few minutes.

I used to write them all down in a book when I worked in the service dept. One day I will have to look for it and post some of the good ones up. I called it "Heard At The Desk".

A girlfriend back in highschool had a nissan sentra that had a funny rumbling and the odd thump from the rear of the car while driving. she took it to a few garages and no one could figure out the problem. after a few months she got used to it and forgot about it, until one day she got a flat tire. I was lucky enough to offer to help her change the tire, only problem, someone had replaced the spare tire under the mat in the trunk with a softball. I laughed so hard!
