Default any firemen on the forum?

i just joined my local volunteer fire dept about a week ago and last night i had my first call. man talk about a rush, i was there at about 11 pm didnt leave till almost 4 am but it didnt even feel like i was there for maybe acouple seconds but the same time everything was in slow motion (i know that doesn't make sense but ...idk its the best way i can explain it lol). i was shaking the whole time i think, and didnt realize till the ride back i was soaked through my jeans an tshirt from sweat. lol

cant lie it was one of the coolest feelings ive ever had once we had it under control.

lol idk why i felt the need to post this maybe see who else is a firemen and tell us your first call and how you reacted to it lol

I started going through the training and taking the tests when I was 12. Went on calls with dad, helped out where is could. When I turned 18 I was able to get my certs and been doing it since (32 now). I'm trained as a firefighter, can run the pumper, drive any of our 6 trucks, first responder, and on the hazmat team.

The rush of getting a call and responding wears off over time (esp at 2am when ya supposed to be up at 4). When I have to don SCBA gear and go in a structure fire or actually use my skills to save somebodys life its still like the first time still.

I was too chubby but always wanted to be... My uncle was a retired captain on Edmontons FD, so i got to ride on all the cool stuff, and when i was a kid he used to stop by with new toys. I got to climb a ladder truck at night and look out over my neighborhood once - cuz my uncle jim was the boss man.
