I don't care what year, I've never liked ANY station wagon.
I guess you don't like your Blazer then!

Hun thats interesting i know why they crumple, its so it takes the shock and you dont. But i though that the Bel Air would be be much stronger than that. It even crumpled worse then the Malibu.

Was expecting more of this
but idk what speed this was so a normal car might have done the same

To me, the 59 Bel Air video is a bit misleading. 1958-1964 Chevrolet's had a unique x-shaped frame those years. This particular design has all of the bracing in the middle of the vehicle with just sheet metal supporting both sides. Hotrodders putting high powered engines in those cars usually have to make additional bracing to the frame to avoid it from twisting. I think the people making the video know that these vehicles were an exception to the norm, but don't tell the viewers.

Here's the x-shaped frame:

Why my beautiful 59 Impala Convertible chick magnet

was a piece of crap after I went into a drainage ditch at an angle. GM braced the frame, extra of course but still it torqued like hell with only minor cosmetic damage.
Sold the car as-is rather than trying to hide it, and within a month the kid wrapped it around a phone pole.
He wasnt hurt or I would have felt bad. Some.

PS: That isnt my car.. just what it looked like. Only hilljacks and guidos put blue glass in tail lights. VERY UNCOOL!

i agree that the xframes are a bit of a joke but they where supposta be the top of the line for the day untill they relized once they got into the real world they are junk. but still my whole point was to show when people say new cars get wrecked way too easly now that ..thats not totally true they are suppost to crush like that for safty and make it easlier for body guys to replace the parts instead of pulling and streatching metal ..again to a point (btw im not aimming this at you saying your wrong ..just making a point lol)

I miss riding in my mom's '59 convertible...It hasn't moved in many years but she now has a '59 Biscayne 2 door that I have yet to see in person.
