Default Bit of drama down here

Christchurch has still not recovered from the earthquake of Sept 2010. Had 1'000's of after shocks after the event & now it's been shaken again. 6.3 as opposed to 7.1 previously but closer to the surface (5km) & 1okm from the city centre.
If the last quake didn't break a building then this made sure & finished the job.
Even broke 30 million tons of ice off the Tasman glacier on the west coast (Christchurch is on the east coast).
The quake was felt from the bottom of the island to the top & even across the channel in Wellington on the north island.

Man, I just heard about this on tv. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the families of both survivors and people who have passed on. Everything good with you Kiwi?

Thanks guys.

Up here on the north island we're cool. didn't feel a thing. Our danger is on the east coast Hawkes Bay area (Gisborne /Napier) where the fault line is off the coast. Last (major) earthquake there was in 1931 I think. 200 odd deaths.

The scary thing is that since the last one in Sept, the aftershocks never stooped.

i was thinking of sending you an email when i first saw it on the news. glad to see you survived it's destruction.

even though you're roughly 1000km North of Christchurch, wasn't sure just how wide spread the effects of it were.

hopefully all those that are trapped get rescued before time runs out for them.

This quake (still clasified as an aftershock) was felt by the entire south island - and across the Cook Strait in Wellington.

This time damage was limited to the city center & eastern suburbs.
It hit just before 1.00pm so most fatalities were in offices & hotels. One hotel (26 storeys) is almost ready to fall. When it does it'll probably bring down other buildings including one across the street.
So far 92 dead, over 2,000 (several hundred serious) injuries & 238 missing at the last count.

With Auckland being the largest city in New Zealand, lots of engineers etc. are up here & these guys are now off to Christchurch to help assess damages.

Oh & the American & British search & resue teams have arrived too.

If there was enough warning I'd have gotten the American guys to bring stuff for my Blazer!

LOL
